Wildlife Sanctuaries in Botswana

Where to find wildlife sanctuaries in Botswana.

Khama Rhino Sanctuary
Community based wildlife project providing a habitat for white and black rhino and many other wildlife and bird species. Visitor activities in the sanctuary include ranger-guided game drives in sanctuary vehicles, self-drive map-guided tours, nature walks, rhino tracking excursions, and educational tours for local schools. Overnight accommodations are available in 8 cottages, shared-room dormatory lodging with bunk beds that can accommodate up to 48 people, and 22 camp sites including camps for large groups. Other facilities in the sanctuary include a restaurant and bar, picnic tables, a curio-shop, and a multi-purpose hall. The Khama Rhino Sanctuary was stablished in 1992 to assist in saving the vanishing rhinoceros, restore an area formerly teeming with wildlife to its previous natural state, and provide economic benefits to the local Botswana community through tourism and the sustainable use of natural resources. Located about 25 kilometers northwest of the town of Serowe, Botswana.

Nata Bird Sanctuary
Bird sanctuary in the Makgadikgadi Pans area that is approximately 230 square kilometers in size, with 55% being land are and 45% beign pan surface. The annual rains fill the sanctuary's pans with overflow from the Nata River, attracting thousands of birds to nest and breed every year. Birds can be observed from a viewing platform next to the pan and there is a campsite near the Sanctuary Gatehouse, about 15 kilometers south of Nata. There are 4 camping areas with shade and views across grassland toward the edge of the pan.

Activities include a mix of safari excursions, lectures, and assisting with the day-to-day work of the project.
